What is a fringe festival?
A fringe festival is an open access arts festival that celebrates grassroots, experimental and independent performances. Originating from the 1947 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, fringe festivals allow artists to bypass traditional curation, offering diverse performances—including theatre, comedy, dance, and cabaret—in a low-cost, accessible format.
Fringe festivals typically support independent work you don’t find in the mainstream, prioritising accessibility, affordability and diversity, and creating pathways for emerging and independent artists.
Fringe is where new ideas are tested, risks are taken, and artists make work on their own terms.
Two Ways to Participate
Artists can take part in Desert Fringe Festival 2026 in two ways:
1. Register a Show (Open Access) – For artists, producers or venues who want to present a performance, exhibition or event during the festival.
OR
2. Artist Development Registration – For artists and producers who do not want to perform this year but would like to join our 2026 Artist Industry Workshop Series, designed to support artists to develop new work and build the skills required to produce shows in future festivals.

Registration Fees
